Adelaide United defender, Jordan Elsey, insists morale within the group is still high as they prepare to face Western Sydney Wanderers at Coopers Stadium on Boxing Day.

The Reds have suffered successive 2-0 defeats to both Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City respectively and are desperate to get their season back on track.

But Elsey said despite the recent lack of success, the team have not lost focus and everyone still has belief.

“Spirits are high we had a long break between the last game,” Elsey told reporters.

“It was good to obviously get all the boys in and get refreshed and we’ll learn from that last game.”

Western Sydney have collected just the two league wins this season and suffered a 3-1 loss to rivals Sydney FC in the derby last time out.

Moreover, the Reds have lost just one of their last ten matches in this fixture.

Hot conditions are expected for the Wednesday night bout with the temperate expected to be in the mid-30s.

Elsey said the heat will not be a major issue as they will be do everything to remain hydrated in order to be fully prepared.

“Obviously staying hydrated and doing all the right things,” he said.

“I’d assume there’ll be a break in play but we’ve been training in the heat all week and it’s not going to affect us.”

With Elsey certain the warm weather will have no real bearing on the outcome of the game, two areas that will are both facets that Adelaide need improving.

Elsey said reducing individual errors and being more clinical in front of goal will determine who captures the three points.

“Obviously finishing our chances and reducing individual mistakes,” he said.

“… We’re looking forward to the Wanderers and doing everything we can do get the three points.”
