Emily Hodgson is set to become just the fourth Adelaide United Women player to reach 50 appearances for the Club against Brisbane Roar Women on Friday night.

Hodgson joined the Reds prior to the 2016/17 season and revealed she was proud to be reaching the significant landmark.

“I think it’s a massive milestone especially being 20 years old as well,” Hodgson said.

“I think it’s just a massive achievement as well because there’s not many people in the club that have played that many games.”

Following its resolute 2-0 win over ladder leader Sydney FC Women last weekend, the Reds remain well-poised to secure a maiden top-four finish.

Hodgson believed it was easily the team’s most impressive outing this year.

“I think our form has definitely been more consistent this season,” she said.

“Getting points away from home and at home has been really great and I reckon our game against Sydney was probably our best performance so far.

“We controlled the game the entire time and didn’t let them get anything which is amazing considering they’re the top team.”

Adelaide will be looking to continue that form in its penultimate game of the regular season against the Roar, who suffered its first loss after falling 4-1 to Canberra United Women.

“I think Brisbane coming off a loss will come out a lot stronger,” the 20-year-old defender said.

“We just need to be not complacent and just play the way we’ve been playing.”

While it is Adelaide’s most successful campaign to date, Adrian Stenta’s side are still not guaranteed a finals berth.

United lie equal second on the table with Brisbane on 19 points – two points clear of fourth ranked Melbourne Victory and four ahead of fifth-placed Canberra.

However, both teams each have a game in hand meaning there are still a number of permutations.

Hodgson said the Reds want to control its own destiny and not rely on other results.

“I think the next two weeks are super important for us,” she said.

“We don’t want to leave anything to chance in the last round seeing we have a bye.

“So hopefully we can secure our finals spot before then.”
