Halloran: We are on the right track

Ben Halloran believes Adelaide United were worthy winners despite their slow start and lack of prolificacy to put the game beyond doubt.

After conceding a penalty inside six minutes, the Reds clicked into gear and played some scintillating attacking football on their way to a 3-1 triumph over the Central Coast Mariners.

The first-half in particular was reminiscent of their 4-0 drubbing of Melbourne City in the FFA Cup Final 2019, where every player was on the same wavelength.

Halloran netted the equaliser following a slick move which involved quick passes before the 27-year-old slotted his finish between the goalkeeper and near post.

“We didn’t really get off to that flyer as I was hoping we would,” Halloran told Fox Sports after the game.

“But the boys dug deep and three world class goals I think.

“The second-half was a bit of a slog but we defended well and deserved the three points.”

Nikola Mileusnić’s mesmerising side volley and an emphatic finish from Kristian Opseth to net his maiden Reds goal from Halloran’s low cross before the break, ensured a third successive league win for Adelaide.

It was Halloran’s fourth goal of the season across all competitions and first in the Hyundai A-League.

He said he was delighted to open his account in the league and stated the team was heading in the right direction.

“Happy to get a goal and just wrapped to get the win and three wins on the trot for the boys, we are on the right track,” he said.
