Ben Halloran was glad to open his Hyundai A-League account with Adelaide United after scoring a decisive brace against Brisbane Roar on Friday night.
Halloran netted both goals either side of half-time as the Reds claimed a 2-1 win over the Roar at Coopers Stadium.
“It was nice to get off the mark and with two goals it’s always great to score, especially at Coopers Stadium,” Halloran told reporters.
“So I was happy with my own performance.”
However, Halloran felt his side were made to work harder for the win than what they needed to after taking their foot off the accelerator.
“I think when we went 2-0 up we were cruising at that point,” he said.
“And I think we took our foot off the gas and made it harder than it needed to be but three points in the end is the most important thing.”
He said he has enjoyed his time in Adelaide so far after spending the last five years of his career abroad in Germany and Japan.
“We’ve got a great bunch of boys here,” he said.
“And the team has a lot of momentum at the moment and you can afford to smile when you miss a shot when you’ve already scored two goals, so I’m definitely enjoying it.”
The Reds will look to extend their winning streak to three matches when they face old foes, Melbourne Victory, on Saturday night in an Original Rivalry blockbuster.
Halloran was confident his side could overcome the in-form Victory.
“We’ve got a couple of days off so we’re just going to relax and then we’ll start analysing Melbourne Victory next week,”
“But recently they’ve won a couple of games and they’re doing quite well.
“So we can’t underestimate them at all but I think if we just focus on our own game we’re good enough to beat them.”
