Ben Halloran and Kusini Yengi discussed Adelaide United’s resurgence after recording a fifth straight win in a 4-1 triumph over Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

The pair both scored along with Stefan Mauk and Craig Goodwin in an impressive performance.

Halloran – who notched Adelaide’s third goal, finishing off a brilliant attacking move for his second of the campaign – believed a good look in the mirror and a change in tactic has contributed to their turnaround in fortunes.

“We lost a few games on the trot really, really badly,” Halloran told Fox Sports after the match.

“We had to look ourselves in the mirror and change things quickly otherwise the season was going to get away from us.

“I think we’ve just been building week to week. Momentum is a massive thing in football and I think we’ve got a bit of belief back.

“And have really changed our tactic, we’re pressing high which I think suits us and we get the rewards.”

Yengi was thrilled to score for the second straight game, dispossessing Nigel Boogaard inside five minutes and dispatching a clinical strike.

“Scoring goals is what I’m in the team to do and when I score I have fun,” Yengi said to Fox Sports.

The 22-year-old felt the team is beginning to click after spending more time on the pitch together.

“We’re really starting to get a good understanding of how each other play,” Yengi said.

“And Carl’s putting everything together and we’re playing really well.”

Yengi said he has taken on board a lot of advice from the senior players in the squad since being with the first team.

“Craig (Goodwin) brings a lot to the team,” he continued.

“I’ve learnt so much in the last six months being in a professional environment, playing with these very good types of players that have played at World Cups, played here and there.

“Javi López as well, there’s a lot of good players in our team and they all bring something and the team’s getting very special.”
