Adelaide United FC can confirm Argentinean playmaker Marcelo Carrusca has a groin injury that is set to keep him out for 2-3 weeks.

Carrusca suffered a grade one adductor tear when he lunged out to intercept a shot late in the second half of Saturday-s nil-all draw with the Newcastle Jets at Hunter Stadium. With the Reds having made all of their substitutions prior to the incident, Carrusca played out the 90 minutes but was in obvious discomfort at the final whistle.

If there is a positive to come out of it, the diagnosis of Carrusca-s scans was somewhat better than expected as the injury could have been more serious.

Carrusca will miss Friday night-s home game against Perth Glory and the Reds- following encounter against Melbourne Heart, with the possibility of being a chance to return for the clash against league leaders the Central Coast Mariners in Gosford on January 25.

The injury setback means the Reds- well publicised depth will be called upon, Coach John Kosmina with a number of options up his sleeve on covering Carrusca-s absence, which includes the likes of Fabian Barbiero, Zenon Caravella and Osama Malik.

Adelaide United will take on Perth Glory this Friday night at Hindmarsh Stadium.
