Adelaide United is thrilled to announce the return of Craig Goodwin to the Club after agreeing to a three-year contract, which will keep the winger in red until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2020/21 season.

Goodwin was previously at the Reds for two seasons between 2014 and 2016 and a huge part of the side that clinched the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 Championship and Premiership double.

He also claimed the Aurelio Vidmar Club Champion Award and the Adelaide United Members’ Player of the Year Award in 2016 for a stellar individual campaign.

The 26-year-old, who scored 10 goals in 59 matches in his first spell in Adelaide, returns to his hometown Club following two years in the Dutch Eredivisie with Sparta Rotterdam.

Goodwin, known for his deadly left foot, skill on the ball, and scoring prowess from both the left and right wings, bagged six goals and provided as many assists during his stay in the Netherlands.

In what is a massive coup for the Club, Goodwin said he was ecstatic to have re-joined Adelaide and is looking forward to pulling on the Reds’ shirt once again in front of the Coopers Stadium faithful.

“I’m obviously very excited,” Goodwin said. “I’ve left Holland with things not ending the way I would have liked, but I’m looking forward to this new opportunity to really take me to the next level.

“I just want to get back to really enjoying my football and that’s what I did in the two years I spent here before, creating some of the most memorable moments of my career and of my life as well.

“I also really want to be able to share some more great moments with the fans, with my teammates, and with my family and friends.

“One of the things I really remember is when Coopers Stadium is packed out the atmosphere is unbelievable.

“And if there’s one thing I can say to the fans is to try and pack out every game as much as possible.

“If we can do that then it’ll help the boys on the field and we can really try and give our supporters something to be proud of.”

Adelaide United Head Coach, Marco Kurz, expressed his delight about the Club reacquiring Goodwin, saying his proven quality and experience in the Hyundai A-League will benefit his team.

“It is fantastic that we have been able to bring Craig back to Adelaide United,” he said. “Craig was one of our main targets and I am sure he will help us a lot next season.

“Craig was very successful with our Club when he was here two seasons ago and proved his quality by signing for Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

“He comes back to Adelaide a much more experienced player and someone that will help us a lot going forward.”
