It is still very early days in his tenure but Head Coach Josep Gombau is pleased with how the squad has initially embraced his football philosophy.

Speaking the day after the Reds- second trial game of the pre season, a 2-1 win over local Premier League minor premiers MetroStars, Gombau is satisfied by what he has seen so far.

Determined to mastermind a change in how Adelaide United executes its football on the field as he looks to bring in a slick, high possession game style moulded on ‘Spanish- football, Gombau can already see a change in the players- way of thinking on the pitch.

“I am happy with what the team is doing,” Gombau said.

“We are only just starting…these trial games are not about whether we win or lose, it-s more for the work that we are doing.”

“It is not easy to just change the style and play the way that we want to play, but I am satisfied with the team…of course there are many things to change and improve, but step by step and day by day.”

Having been coaching for over 20 years since the age of 16, Gombau knows what he wants and his attention to detail and clear way of communicating is already evident.

He has a strong belief in what he teaches and it augurs well for exciting times ahead if the playing group continues to develop the way it is under his tutelage.

Gombau will welcome Eugene Galekovic and Dario Vidosic back to training on Monday after the duo enjoyed a short break away following their commitments with the Socceroos over the past 3-4 months.
