Galekovic: Our disappointment will drive us

After Friday’s frustrating loss to Brisbane Roar, Reds’ Captain Eugene Galekovic, reflected on the disappointment currently being felt around the squad, but highlighted the Westfield FFA Cup Final on Tuesday night as being the perfect opportunity for a response.

“(Friday night) was disappointing,” Galekovic said. “We started off really slow. They had a few chances early on and they probably could have been two goals up. I think by the time the second half started we got into the game and in the end we could have gotten something out of it, but unfortunately we didn’t.

“We want to make amends (for our loss to Brisbane) because we don’t like to lose, but the good thing is that we only have a couple of days (to wait) to make up for it.

“The boys can’t wait for Tuesday night’s final and we really want to (keep) the (Westfield FFA Cup) trophy here in Adelaide.

“We’ve wanted to win (the Westfield FFA Cup) from the start and we’ve always put out our best team. The history (of the competition) is going to get bigger and bigger and we want to be the first team to lift the trophy.

“A sold out Coopers Stadium is going to give it that good vibe as well. We have two more training sessions before the game and it’s really going to hit home as we get closer to the game.”

Galekovic continued by stating the Reds’ rivals, Perth Glory, will undoubtedly prove to be worthy opposition – their Round 3 Hyundai A-League clash at Coopers Stadium the best example.

“We played (Perth) early on, we did really well, and (we won) 2-0, but I wouldn’t say that it was comfortable because it’s always hard playing against Perth,” he explained.

“They haven’t changed too much, but they’ve got more confidence from the games they’ve won and they’re going to come here (firing).

“(To win against Perth) is not going to come easy and we’ll have to give everything to win and I’m sure we can do it.

“It’s our home crowd, our surface, our stadium, we (can) get over the line (first).”

Adelaide United will face Perth Glory in the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup Final at Coopers Stadium on Tuesday, 16 December. Kick off is at 7.00pm ACDT.
