Eugene Galekovic says the opportunity of facing Perth Glory whilst they are in somewhat of a slump in form, is something the Reds must finally capitalise upon.
Currently, Adelaide United and Perth Glory make up the bottom two teams in the Hyundai A-League, with the Reds yet to register a win this campaign and the Glory’s only win of the season coming against United back in Round 3.
Nevertheless, Adelaide’s Captain and No. 1 goalkeeper, Eugene Galekovic, says his side must ensure they must capitalise upon the current slump in form the Glory is experiencing.
And with United seemingly improving their performances and getting closer to registering their first win of the season, most noticeably against Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory in rounds seven and eight respectively, Perth have, to a certain extent, declined, including the 5-1 thrashing they sustained last week against Melbourne City.
“It’s been ideal to change our situation every week,” Galekovic said.
“Last week I said it was good because it was Melbourne Victory away from home and we really believed we could get something out of the game.
“This week’s another chance because Perth is struggling a little bit as well and they’re in a very similar situation to us.”
Siting a potential return to Hyundai A-League action for injured striker, Eli Babalj, at the squad’s training session at the Adelaide United Training Centre on Wednesday morning, Galekovic mentioned that it was perhaps too early for United’s coaching staff to make a definitive call on the striker’s involvement on Sunday and will make a decision closer to the game-day.
“Today we’ve been focussing on (our play) and our shape to get everything right for the weekend,” Galekovic continued.
“Eli has been doing his rehab and it looks like he’s not completely ready to start playing again, but he might be able to come off the bench depending on how he feels.
“The last two sessions will be when we have more of an idea on who will be able to start and things like that.
“We need a change as quick as possible and we’ll fight and give everything we can on Sunday.
“We still want a big crowd to turn up on the weekend to help us too. We’re giving everything and we’re fighting and we want things to turn as much as the fans do.”
Adelaide United will face Perth Glory in Round 9 of the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season on Sunday, 6 December 2015 at Coopers Stadium. Kick-off is at 7.00pm ACDT.
