Adelaide United FC-s future in between the posts is in safe hands with the club delighted to announce that inspirational captain and goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic has signed a contract extension for a further three years.

Galekovic was set to come off contract at the end of this season and was free to explore his options from November 1 but he put an end to any suggestion of him heading elsewhere as he confirmed Adelaide United as the club he wants to continue his career.

A Socceroo, dual Adelaide United Club Champion and two time Hyundai A-League Goalkeeper of the Year, the 32 year olds new deal will keep him at the Reds until the end of the 2016/17 season.

Nine games away from surpassing former Reds captain Travis Dodd-s record of 183 appearances in all competitions for the club, Galekovic-s new deal is set to see him go well past the 200 game milestone.

“I-m really happy to have signed on with the club for another three years,” Galekovic said.

“It-s fair to say five months ago I wasn-t sure what I wanted to do once my contract came up but there is a really good feeling around the club and the squad now, I-m really enjoying my football and what is happening here.”

“There is a real sense that we-re on the cusp of something special and I love living in Adelaide so I feel really good about my decision and look forward to what lies ahead.”

Adelaide United General Manager – Football Operations, Michael Petrillo says Galekovic-s decision to re-sign is a strong indication that the club is moving in the right direction.

“Eugene is a brilliant goalkeeper and a tremendous club person. From the day he first arrived in Adelaide he has set extremely high standards, been a standout performer, and players of Eugene-s character and calibre are hard to find so we-re thrilled that he will be with us for another three years,” Petrillo said.

“His commitment to the club highlights that he believes in the direction the club is heading and that success is not far away.”

The announcement of Galekovic-s re-signing is a significant boost for the Reds as they prepare to host Melbourne Victory in Harvey Norman Friday Night Football at Coopers Stadium this Friday night.
