Football Federation Australia (FFA) has approved a change to the Hyundai A-League Player Contract Regulations which will enable clubs to commence loaning Australian players aged 23 and under to other Hyundai A-League clubs from the 2018/19 Season onwards.
Under the ‘Intra-League Loans’ framework, Hyundai A-League clubs will be permitted to loan in, or out, a maximum of two (2) players either way at any one time. Loans may occur for either the whole season, or from ‘window to window’ in line with Australia’s FIFA Transfer Window calendar.
Crucially, the loan term for the 2018/19 season cannot exceed 31 May 2019, and players cannot be recalled to their parent club during the period of the loan agreement. No loan fees will be permitted in relation to Intra-League Loans. Importantly, a loan player will be ineligible to play against his parent club.
FFA’s Head of Leagues, Greg O’Rourke, said that the Intra-Leagues Loan system has been designed to assist more young players to secure game time in the Hyundai A-League.
“We have worked collaboratively with Hyundai A-League clubs to secure this change in the Player Contract Regulations,” said O’Rourke.
“We envisage that it will improve the prospects of young Australian players to feature more regularly in the Hyundai A-League, while adding to the conversation around the competition as clubs secure new players on loan deals.”
