Portuguese winger Fabio Ferreira has decided to end his time with the Adelaide United Football Club.
Ferreira, who has signed with another football club, has decided it is time to move on and has requested that his contract with the Reds be terminated.
Given the situation the Club has agreed to this request and his contract has been terminated immediately, allowing him to pursue his other option and allowing the club time to bring in a replacement player for the rest of the season.
He has not played since being substituted at half-time due to a hamstring strain in the Red’s Hyundai A-League match against Newcastle Jets on Friday 19 December.
Ferreira joined the club at the beginning of the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League season, and has scored 13 goals in 54 appearances. He also won the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup back in December 2014.
Adelaide United Chief Executive Officer, Michael Petrillo wished Ferreira well in the next stage of his footballing career, but also said the club was close to announcing a new signing.
“Fabio has been a great player for our club but more importantly also a great person and we understand the reasons behind his request to terminate his contract,” said Petrillo.
“Once we had this request we worked very hard and quickly to look for a suitable replacement and once we had secured the player we wanted, we agreed to release Fabio from the remainder of his contract.”
Since his arrival, Fabio ‘La Flecha’ Ferreira has been a fan favourite and will be missed.
“We believe this decision has been made in the best interests of both the club and the player. Fabio leaves the club on good terms and we wish him all the very best for the future”, said Petriilo.
