Adelaide United Football Club is delighted to announce that young defender Jordan Elsey signed a one-year contract extension today.

The 20-year-old has made 11 appearances for the club (including one in the Westfield FFA Cup) and is a product of the Adelaide United youth program.

Unfortunately the defender, whose preferred position is centre-back, has not featured for the Reds this season due to breaking both wrists and tearing his ACL just as the campaign started.

This is testament to Adelaide United Coach Josep Gombau’s faith in Elsey, stating that he is a local talent that fits the playing style of the club.

“I saw enough of Jordan before his injury to know that he is a player that we look for in our centre-back positions – he can pass the ball and play from the back,” said Gombau.

“He has had a tough year with injuries and as soon as possible we want to get him playing as many minutes as he can so he will be ready for the new season.”

Speaking exclusively to the club, Jordan acknowledged that the continued support from the staff and players made it an easy decision for him to re-sign and he is eager to return their faith.

“I am happy to stay in Adelaide because of the playing style and it is also my home with so much support from the staff and players here,” said Elsey.

“I can see the club going places with our style and this is where I want to stay and improve my game.

“My first priority is to look after my knee and the plan is that I will be ready for pre-season leading into the 2015/16 campaign.”

Elsey was the club’s Rising Star of last season and his match-winning header against league-leaders Brisbane Roar in our 2-1 away victory of the same year are memorable achievements.
