With plenty of goals to talk about, the first competitive points round of the second season of the E-League did not disappoint as some new faces showed the rest of the league just what they are capable of.

Catch up on all the action from Round 2 below!

Sydney FC 11-6 Adelaide United

  • In a match which featured the top 2 Australian PS4 players, this fixture certainly did not disappoint the neutrals at home.

Xbox: Necat “Nfamous_Shadow8” George 6–2 Jamie “FUTWIZ Jamie” O’Doherty

With both Nfamous_Shadow and FUTWIZ Jamie coming off disappointing losses in the exhibition round, this match-up provided them with the perfect opportunity to build confidence for the rest of the season.

The highlight of a close first leg, which saw Nfamous edge Jamie 2-1, was the stunning El Tornado finish from Cristiano Ronaldo from the edge of the box. After seeing only two El Tornado goals scored throughout the duration of Season 1, fans of the game would have been excited to see an El Tornado so early on into the 2019 Season.

Unfortunately for Jamie, the second leg did not go to plan either as he fell 4-1 to Nfamous. With his calibre, viewers can expect him to bounce back sooner rather than later.

PS4: Mark “FUTWIZ Marko” Brijeski 5–3 Rick Tran

Sydney’s FUTWIZ Marko battled his opponent – Adelaide’s RickTran – in both competitor’s debut in this E-League season.

The first leg saw Rick get edge out Marko with a close 2-1 win that came courtesy of a 90th minute winner from Neymar.

Marko then bounced back and showed everyone why he is ranked number 1 with a solid 4-2 victory to help secure the 3 points for his Sydney FC team.

Melbourne Victory 17-3 Newcastle Jets

  • Unlike last season’s Hyundai A-League Grand Final, this virtual fixture had plenty of goals.

Xbox: Mouad ‘MouadZwed’ Zwed 14-1 Liz “N8 Liz” Varley

Mouad Zwed followed up on a successful first week with a dominant first leg against Newcastle representative Liz.

He set the early pace by grabbing a quick two-goal lead in the first 15 minutes, before closing it out with a 4-0 victory thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick.

It wasn’t until the second leg where Zwed showed his class where he created E-League history by scoring 10 goals in a single leg to secure a 10-1 win against Liz, who will certainly be looking to bounce back next week.

PS4: Christian “Fweshest” Bartolillo 2–3 Sarge “Sarge_Fifa” Singh

Unlike their Xbox counterparts, the PS4 representatives had a very different series with two very close and back and forth matches.

The first leg saw Sarge edge Fweshest with a 1-0 victory courtesy of a second half Kosta Barbarouses goal, but Fweshest hit back in the second leg.

A well worked and skilful run by Cristiano Ronaldo in the box was finished off by the man with the same name, Ronaldo Nazario, after it deflected off the post. Sarge equalised soon after before Fweshest retook the lead after the half time break, but Sarge equalised for the second time in the game as the second leg finished 2-2.

Melbourne City 14-5 Perth Glory

  • The return of renowned Australian superstar Marcus Gomes got off to a rough start as he faced Perth Glory with current teammate and former Glory star Peter Saisanas on his side.

Xbox: Marcus “Marcus Gomes” Gomes 6–4 David “N8 Highfly” Cook

The long awaited debut of Marcus Gomes got off to a rough start as Highfly jumped out to an early two-goal lead within the first 10 minutes. A high press from the outset forced a mistake out of David De Gea as he passed it straight to an advanced Ivan Franjic, before Highfly extended his lead with Eusebio in the 10thminute.

But Marcus showed his class and fought back to claim a 3-2 first leg victory after scoring with Neymar in the 78th minute. Carrying over the first leg momentum, Marcus again replicated the scoreline with another 3-2 victory despite Highfly threatening a come-back late on into the match.

PS4: Peter “Saisanas” Saisanas 8–1 Adrian “StridentCorn” Klein

Hot out of the gates, Saisanas showed there was no love lost for his former Perth Glory team as he put an early missed penalty behind him and stormed out to a 4-0 lead in the first half of the first leg. A solitary goal in the second half saw him take a convincing 5-0 victory.

Heading into the second leg, StridentCorn looked to have shaken off some early nerves and settled into the game, but unfortunately Saisanas was just too strong and he claimed a 3-1 victory in the second leg helping his new City side to a 14-5 aggregate win on the night.

Brisbane Roar 13-8 Western Sydney Wanderers

  • Despite a strong first leg showing from the Brisbane players, the Western Sydney representatives fought back in their respective second legs.

Xbox: Andy “AKP0” Phanouvong 5-6 Joseph “N8 OhNoAGoat” Nassar

The first leg between Akp0 and OhNoAGoat was well and truly a game of two halves. 1-0 to Akp0 heading into the half time break, this lead was extended to 4-0 as OhNoAGoat looked down and out. But, with three unanswered goals, including a 94th minute goal to Cristiano Ronaldo, OhNoAGoat got into a rhythm and changed the momentum of the tie.

The second leg continued to go OhNoAGoat’s way as he secured a 3-1 win against a 10 man Akp0 lead Brisbane Roar team, with a left foot Bruce Kamau strike sealing the come from behind Xbox win.

PS4: Dylan “AussieFIFAHD” Banks 8-2 Joel “N8 Jaz” Andruskiewicz

Like his Xbox counterpart, AussieFIFA jumped out to a big lead in the first leg, securing a 6-1 win against E-League debutant N8 Jaz, who was left disappointed with his first leg performance.

The second leg was a much closer game with N8 Jaz fighting back and showing the rest of the league a glimpse of what he can do. Despite going down 1-0 in the 34th minute to an Antoine Griezmann goal, Jaz stayed with AussieFIFA and contested a close game before being rewarded in the 85th minute. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough as AussieFIFA scored a 90th minute winner from Cristiano Ronaldo to secure his second win of the night.

Central Coast Mariners 6-9 Wellington Phoenix

  • With first leg honours being shared, it all came down to who could stay the calmest as the last games of the night went down to the wire on Xbox and PS4.

Xbox: Kiran “KyrenFIFA” Gupta 3-5 Justin “N8 JustManUtd” Josevski

The final games of the night certainly didn’t disappoint as KyrenFIFA took on N8 JustManUtd in what was a closely contested first legged affair. Scores were tied until the 82nd minute when N’Golo Kante broke the deadlock for JustManUtd only for KyrenFIFA to equalise in the 93rd minute with legend Ruud Gullit.

A much more open game awaited the duo in the second leg, with N8 JustManUtd only needing six minutes to open the scoring before doubling his lead in the 24th minute. KyrenFIFA immediately answered from the kick-off, before JustManUtd scored after the half-time break and sealed the win with a 78th minute Kylian Mbappe goal into the top corner.

PS4: Matthew “StrawhatCamels” Camilleri 3-4 Omar “oCenk_” Cenk

The PS4 contest between Strawhat Camels, who was making his E-League season 2 debut, and oCenk_ was also closely contested as the two were unable to be separated after the first leg.

Despite holding a 3-1 lead, oCenk_ failed to hold off a late comeback from Strawhat Camels who managed to secure a 3-3 draw heading into the second leg, leaving it all to play for.

The second leg was much like the first Xbox leg, with both players going back and forth trying to break the deadlock. It took until the 49th minute for the deadlock to break when Ruud Gullit poorly chested a ball for Strawhat that fell to Cristiano Ronaldo who slotted it home for oCenk_ in what would prove to be the decisive goal for the game and securing the 3 points for the Phoenix.
