Adelaide United FC has been dealt a setback with confirmation that striker Bruce Djite is recovering from a groin injury that he suffered against Melbourne Victory last Friday night.

Further compounding the prognosis is that it happened in the dying minutes of the match, with Djite having only come on as a second half substitute in the 87th minute.

Djite will miss this Saturday-s match against Sydney FC and most likely the following week-s encounter with champions Brisbane Roar, the 24 year olds progress and recovery to be assessed by club medical staff on a daily basis.

“It-s obviously disappointing, injuries can happen at any time and I-m unlucky to suffer one now but it-s better to have an injury at the start of the season than at finals time so I-m just going to do everything right to get it 100 per cent better and take it day-by-day and just see how I go,” Djite said.

In a further concern for the Reds heading into Saturday-s game against a Sydney FC side that is searching for its first win of the season, Ukrainian midfielder Evgeniy Levchenko is battling to overcome a calf problem he incurred at training earlier in the week.

Levchenko has not trained with the main squad since Monday but has been making a steady recovery since and he is still regarded as a chance to be available for the game on Saturday.
