Djite commends Reds after 3-0 over Sydney

Following Adelaide United’s 3-0 win over Sydney FC on Friday at Allianz Stadium, striker, Bruce Djite, has applauded the performance of the Reds, especially in the second half.

“I think in the second half we really ramped it up a little bit,” Djite said.

“Sydney didn’t have much depth on the bench, and I don’t think they made a substitution during the game, so the boys out there were a little bit knackered.

“But it’s testament to the way that we play. We can wear teams down if we can keep possession longer and I think we did that and (there were) some fantastic goals in the second half.”

Djite also mentioned the significance head-coach, Josep Gombau, put onto the match, as well as highlighting the cost of such a performance ahead of our match with Wellington Phoenix on New Year’s Eve.

“The coach (Gomabu) made it very clear to us before the game how important it was to get back to winning ways and get back to what we do best,” he continued.

“If we want to be title contenders we have to win these sorts of games and I think the boys did really well (Friday) night.

“It was an expensive game – personnel wise. Chelo (Carrusca) picked up something, Boogaard’s suspended, Tarek (Elrich) is suspended, Eugene (Galekovic) will be away (with the national squad), but we’ll regroup.

“The coaching staff will have some decisions to make on how we’re going to play against Wellington, which is another big test for us and another game that we have to win.”

Reflecting on his own performance, Djite couldn’t hide his elation at being back on the scoresheet, even though his goal wasn’t as clinical as others he has scored.

“I was very happy with (my goal) to be honest.

“Obviously the concept of being in the right place at the right time paid off and I was thinking at the time about just how satisfied I was with the goal.

“Lucky goals like that you see on TV sometimes and I always think to myself, ‘how come I never get those lucky goals?’

“It was definitely a luck one, but I’m very happy to claim it.”
