Coach Rini Coolen has explained the benefits to come out of a meeting he had with former Australian national cycling team coach Charlie Walsh.

Walsh, who is based in Adelaide, met with Coolen on Tuesday to share ideas, thoughts and experiences, and give the Reds- Coach a chance to listen to some of Walsh-s philosophies that he implemented to great effect.

“I had a very good meeting with him (Walsh). I like to catch up with coaches from different sports and at different levels and to learn from their experiences, and it was an idea from our football staff to have a chat with him,” Coolen said.

“So we had a very good chat, I enjoyed it because he-s good to listen to, very motivating, he has a lot of experience in his sport, and we-ll definitely catch up again with him to share some thoughts.”

“One thing I want to make clear is that he-s not coming in to solve injuries, we don-t have many injuries. He-s not coming in to help us in a football conditioning way because we have our own way of training and coaching, but it-s very important to have a chat with guys like him in every area in sport, if we can use some help in different ways as a coach, as a football department and even for our players, we will definitely do that.”

“Charlie has a lot of passion, a lot of experience and we-ll catch up again because maybe we can use him in a motivational way and use his skills.”
