Following a standout local campaign, 2018 WNPL Rising Star and Player of the Year Charlotte Grant has begun to show flashes of her potential in the Westfield W-League 2018/19.

Making her debut in Round 2 against Brisbane Roar, the 17-year-old is pleased with how she has settled into the squad, giving credit to the support of her more experienced teammates.

“It’s been great to have the girls like Michelle Heyman and the internationals in particular,” she said.

“They’ve really helped me to improve as a player and have had a big impact on me.”

Having found their form in Round 6, Sydney FC have demonstrated an ability to be a high scoring attacking side, but will be met by an equally dominant defence when they host Adelaide United this Thursday night.

Grant praised the hard work of her teammates so far, and expects the Reds to be able to continue restricting their opponent’s chances.

“They do have a very strong line up and they’ll be a tough team to play against, especially now that they’re gelling well together, but we’re still confident we can beat them.”

“We’re a very hard working team, we work hard for each other. I think if we continue to press hard and high, we’ll be able to limit their goal scoring opportunities.

“We’re confident in our ability to match any side in the competition.”

So far this season Grant has been utilised as a second half substitution, displaying speed and attacking intent making it difficult for the opposition late in games.

While the speedy midfielder says the change of pace has taken some getting used to, Grant is determined to make impact when given her chance.

“It’s a much faster paced game, I’ve had to make decisions a lot quicker. I’ve really focused on improving my first touch, and I feel as though I’m starting to pick it up.

“My mindset for all games and my overall goal is to always make a difference. So I just continue to try and implement that each week.”
