Adelaide United FC-s Brazilian pocket rocket Cassio has returned from Brazil eager to help the Reds in their surge towards the finals.

The Reds- longest serving current player and dual Club Champion went back to his homeland to receive treatment and undergo rehabilitation on a foot injury, which has seen him miss United-s last nine matches.

Arriving back to Adelaide in great physical shape, Cassio is now undertaking a thorough conditioning program in order to be at his peak for the Reds- hectic upcoming Hyundai A-League and AFC Champions League schedule.

Further to his conditioning program, Cassio has also rejoined training with the full squad intent on being ready for match conditions, although Coach John Kosmina revealed Cassio’s return would not be for at least another fortnight.

Kosmina said the plan is to have the Brazilian left back available for selection for the home game against the Wellington Phoenix on February 3.

“We-re going to give Cassio a couple of weeks of what would probably be best described as a mini pre season,” Kosmina said.

“We gave him a little bit of work the other day and he-s a little bit undercooked as you would expect with eight weeks out.

“His injuries are fine but I don-t want to risk trying to rush him back and risk soft tissue injuries…I want Cassio 100 per cent and then we can have him for the rest of the season, rather than rush him back too quick.”

“At this time of the year and being underdone, the pace that the game is played at now – with it being the second half of the season and the home run, I don-t want him to jump into that and maybe hurt himself.”
