Marcelo Carrusca says he and his teammates are not surprised with their current form, despite their sluggish start to the campaign, with the Reds now enjoying a nine-match undefeated streak.

Carrusca made no mistake with his neat strike in United’s 1-0 win over the Newcastle Jets on Sunday, his fifth goal of the season the difference between the two sides.

One of the most prominent players for both the Reds and in the Hyundai A-League, Carrusca stated that he was always full of confidence in his teammates’ ability and that there was never any doubt that United would eventually climb from the depths of the league standings.

“We have believed in our team from the start,” Carrusca said. “Sometimes things don’t go the way you want them to, but after a couple of games we have been winning and getting the results.

“We have the confidence to now get the victories, like we did against Newcastle on Sunday.

“When you start to win, you gain more and more confidence, and the freedom to play. We are working very hard to win every game we can.”

Carrusca also ensured to shift the spotlight from himself and his recent goal-scoring heroics, pointing it in the direction of the entire Reds squad, saying each individual has stepped up to the challenges facing the team as a collective group.

“We are a team, and everyone puts in effort, always pushing forward and trying to win,” he continued. “This is all about the team’s performance together.”

And with United now preparing to face Sydney FC at Coopers Stadium this Friday evening, the match is sure to send the Reds catapulting up the league table into third position, even if it’s only momentarily, Carrusca highlighting it’s importance.

“The next game against Sydney is very important. Our concentration is now on that game and making sure we all focus on the match only.

“The main focus is the game and playing, everything is for us and the fans.

“We are doing very well at the moment and we believe in ourselves and what we are doing. We are winning, which is the most important thing, and I hope it continues this way for a long time.”

Adelaide United will face Sydney FC in Round 18 of the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season on Friday, 5 February at Coopers Stadium. Kick-off is at 7.10pm ACDT.
