Marcelo Carrusca recalls the significance of playing in the Remembrance Round fixture and said it was “special” to be back in the AUFC Legends team again.

Carrusca will line-up alongside several iconic Reds when they face the Australian Defence Force Open Men’s Football Team as a prelude to Adelaide’s Hyundai A-League encounter with Brisbane Roar.

The Argentine was incidentally a recipient of the Tomas Dale Medal in 2013 despite the Reds suffering a 2-1 loss to Newcastle Jets.

“It’s a very special day, it’s very special for us to play on Remembrance Round,” he said.

“It’s a big day for everyone and I remember last time we played there it was nice to be back on the field and play at Coopers Stadium again.

“Especially for the people it’s such a special day that they invite us to come back and play in front of the Adelaide United supporters is very special, and I’m very grateful that it’s happened again and lucky to be part of this game.”

The 36-year-old spent five seasons at Adelaide between 2012 and 2017, amassing a total of 123 appearances while scoring 27 goals.

He said it was a fantastic feeling to have the opportunity to play on Coopers Stadium and reacquaint himself with former teammates and legends of the Club.

“There’s a couple of players that I used to play with and it’s always good to be back and after finishing playing,” he said.

“It’s always nice and enjoyable to come back and see the people that work at the Club and see different teammates this is something I’m looking forward to.

“Hopefully we can have a good game which we can enjoy which is what it’s all about.”

The attacking midfielder, who won the inaugural FFA Cup and the historic Premiership and Championship double in 2016, jokingly said he expects to pull up sore the next day.

“To be honest since I’ve retired I haven’t done much,” he revealed.

“So it’s just my boys at the academy that keep me fit, but compared with the other ex-players I’m very, very happy the way that I am.

“Hopefully I can play a lot of minutes and as I said before it will be a special moment, a special day for everyone.”
