Back to business for Reds despite cup win

After his side’s impressive Westfield FFA Cup Final win over Perth Glory on Tuesday night, Adelaide United captain, Eugene Galekovic, has said the squad has refocussed on their domestic campaign.

Eugene Galekovic has stated that Adelaide United is now solely concentrated on pushing for both the premiership and championship in their A-League season now that the Westfield FFA Cup has concluded.

“The thing that makes (winning the FFA Cup) more special was it being in Adelaide and having our home support,” Galekovic said.

“Doing it in front of the fans just topped it off.

“I still want to win more here. We’re in a good position to win another trophy this (season), so it’s back to work and we’ll be working hard to win the premiership and championship.

“It’s possible (to complete the treble – winning the FFA Cup, premiership, and championship), but it’s always tough and you need a bit of luck.

“We’ll start working from today to potentially achieve that (and) the boys are all confident and we’ll start again on Friday (against Newcastle Jets).

“We’ve got a long trip now to Newcastle and it starts again. We have to forget about (the final) almost and just worry about the A-League now.”

The Reds 1-0 victory over Perth Glory makes them the first side to be crowned winners in the FFA Cup competition, Galekovic believing the achievement has made amends for some of the club’s previous final failures.

“It was a big game (on Tuesday night) and we performed (well),” he continued.

“We’ve been through some grand final heartaches (in the past), but last night we made up for it and hopefully that builds (up to) something else later on this season.”

Adelaide United will play Newcastle Jets in Round 11 of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 Season on Friday, 19 December. Kick off is at 7.10pm ACDT (7.40 AEDT).
