Adelaide United Head Coach, Ivan Karlovic said that his side are boosted by the result last week, but have now switched focus to their match against Melbourne Victory in Round 7 of the Westfield W-League.

Fresh from taking a point in their 1-1 draw against Melbourne City, the Reds will be hopeful in their surge to make finals as they head back to Melbourne to face Victory.

Victory fell to Sydney FC at the weekend, and they too will be aiming for maximum points, as the second half of the season commences.

Karlovic again expressed his thoughts on last week and said that his Reds had put in a great shift against a quality side in Melbourne City.

“It was good to get the point against the reigning champions, as they are quality opposition,” Karlovic said.

“You’re not going to get a whole heap of chances against a side like that, so you have to be clinical.

“I felt we also kept a lot of their opportunities down, even though they had a lot of the ball I thought we were quite well-structured for majority of the game.

“We hit the post as well in what was a good chance, but again, we are happy with the point and the team put in a good performance and deserved to get something out of the game.

“And Sarah (Willacy) has been very good for us in the last two games and it would have been disappointing to have dropped points in the third consecutive away game.

“But Sarah made the save in the last few minutes which was the difference.”

Karlovic said his side are confident ahead of their next challenge, but despite Victory sitting at the foot of the table, they are a side who cannot be underestimated.

“Victory are a good side and not to be underestimated, and it’s another game away from home,” Karlovic continued.

“It is another game where we want to get a good performance in and I think if we can do that, we have a very good chance to get some points.

“We really focus on ourselves first and foremost and then we respect the opposition.

“We’ll look to exploit certain areas and also nullify them to few opportunities which we feel we can do.”

Adelaide United Women travel back to Melbourne on Saturday, 9 December to face Melbourne Victory in Round 7 of the Westfield W-League at Lakeside Stadium. Kick-off is 4.00pm ACDT.
