Adelaide United will host Sydney FC in the FFA Cup Final 2018 at Coopers Stadium in Adelaide on Tuesday 30 October 2018.
Sydney FC qualified for the FFA Cup Final 2018 after they defeated the Western Sydney Wanderers FC 3-0 in a thrilling Sydney Derby at Panthers Stadium tonight.
After a tense, scoreless first half, Trent Buhagiar opened the scoring for Sydney FC four minutes into the second half. Siem de Jong doubled Sydney FC’s lead in the 63rd minute with a sublimely taken free kick and Adam Le Fondre sealed the result with a converted penalty in the 76th minute after he was fouled in the box by Tarek Elrich.
Adelaide United booked their third FFA Cup Final berth after accounting for Bentleigh Greens SC 2-0 at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex last night courtesy of goals from Ben Halloran and Jordan Elsey.
Adelaide United met Sydney FC in last year’s FFA Cup Final where Sydney FC won 2-1 in extra time.
This will also be the second time that Adelaide United and Coopers Stadium has hosted the FFA Cup Final after hosting the inaugural edition of the FFA Cup Final in 2014.
In a first for the FFA Cup competition, the hosting rights for the FFA Cup Final were determined by a draw following full-time in the Sydney Derby. Kaine Sheppard, who played for Avondale FC during the FFA Cup 2018 competition and who recently signed his first professional contract with the Newcastle Jets, was on hand to conduct the draw at the FOX SPORTS studios in Sydney. Since Adelaide United were the team drawn out first, they won the right to host the FFA Cup Final 2018 at Coopers Stadium in Adelaide.
