The much and long awaited appearance of Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero to Adelaide was an outstanding success on Friday night.

The much awaited appearance of Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero was an outstanding success at Coopers Stadium on Friday night. Congratulations is due all round to:

Del PIero himself. The 39 year old was selfless with his time and the manner in which he acknowledged the crowd, along with the customary signing of autographs and photos for fans. He is indeed a legend of the game and even more notably has the class and presence befitting such a position.

The South Australian sporting public. The attendance figure, the respect shown to a champion of the game – a standing ovation for Del Piero was fitting recognition for the impact he has had on the Hyundai A-League.

Of recent times much has been written about supporter behaviour at interstate venues, we would welcome the same scrutiny of the crowd at Coopers Stadium. A capacity crowd, plenty of on field action, an International superstar appearing and all with exemplary spectator behaviour – indeed it was a special night of football in South Australia.
