Adelaide United and Western Sydney Wanderers shared the points with a 2-2 draw to kick-start the Westfield W-League season on Saturday.

Keelin Winters and Caitlin Cooper put the Wanderers ahead with Sarah Killion and Tiarn Powell equalising for the Lady Reds at Adelaide Shores Football Centre.

The away side dominated the early proceedings getting on the scoresheet within three minutes with Winters finishing off a beautifully worked move.

The Lady Reds steadied but let their guard down 14 minutes later when Cooper headed in a corner to put the Wanderers two goals up.

Attacks by the Lady Reds were sporadic with the likes of Rosie Sutton and Elizabeth Milne penetrating the Wanderers defence only on a handful of occasions, but the Lady Reds got a lucky break four minutes before half-time with Sarah Killion scoring directly from a corner.

The Lady Reds returned from the break the stronger of two controlling possession and moving the ball well.

However, the equaliser didn’t arrive from open play with Tiarn Powell converting a well worked free-kick after 62 minutes.

The game opened up with both teams creating a host of chances but the teams lacked the finishing touch.

Both teams start their respective seasons by splitting points, with the Wanderers hoping to go one better in round two against Brisbane Roar while the Lady Reds are set for a bye.
