Young Reds see-off ten-man Roar

Adelaide United’s Young Reds have beaten Brisbane Roar in their final match of the Foxtel Y-League 2017/18 season thanks to goals from Ninko Beric, Carlo Armiento, and a brace by Pacifique Niyongabire.

In what was a largely-dominant display from United, Paul Pezos’ boys took just five minutes to get off the mark through a well-taken Beric strike from close-range.

Then, eight minutes before the break, Armiento doubled the hosts’ lead, striking a low drive into the bottom right corner after being slotted through by Beric.

Niyongabire put the result beyond doubt when he bundled home United’s third after Brisbane’s goalkeeper, Macklin Freke, fumbled the ball in his six-yard box. The Burundi-born forward then made it 4-0 in the 65th minute, rounding-off the Reds’ rout calmly.

Cristian Aloisi pulled one back for Roar in the 90th minute, but it was too little, too late.

The score could have been far more in favour of the Young Reds at half time, though, but Freke denied Armiento twice in quick succession.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Reds, Brisbane having a goal disallowed after Woosig Yoon was deemed to be offside, but Isaac Richards was largely untroubled throughout the clash.

The visitors played the majority of the second half with ten men following Emlyn Wellsmore’s dismissal ten minutes after the re-start for a last-man challenge on Armiento.
