Alagich: Reds ready to respond in crucial AFC clash
Adelaide United midfielder Ethan Alagich has reaffirmed the squad’s belief in one another and Head Coach Airton Andrioli, as the Reds turn their attention to Thursday night’s crucial AFC Champions League Two encounter. Following a disappointing result in Perth, Alagich acknowledged the need for honest reflection within the group but stressed the importance of quickly shifting focus to the challenge ahead. “It’s obviously a very disappointing result, not the one that we wanted,” Alagich said. “But we’ve got to remember that we’ve got lots of games to go through, and we’ve got to turn our attention to this game very quickly. “There’ll be a bit of reflection amongst us as a group and what we could have done better, and then we take that and move that to Thursday.” Despite external noise, Alagich insisted the playing group remained confident and fully embraced the busy schedule ahead. “I think the group’s been really, really good with it. Everyone’s embraced it, and we’re all looking forward to playing games. That’s what we want at the end of the day.” The midfielder also highlighted the strong relationship between the players and Andrioli, emphasising the mutual belief and trust within the squad. “We have 100 per cent belief and trust in him as well. Knowing that it goes both ways is massive, and we know we’re not that far away. We’ll be able to get the results.” With another important domestic fixture against Melbourne Victory on the weekend, Alagich stressed the importance of taking each match as it comes rather than looking too far ahead. “That’s maybe another thing we spoke about, just taking every game and being in the moment rather than thinking about the schedule and all the games that are coming. “We’ve got to be in the moment of where we are and focus on the game that’s in front of us and what’s now.” Thursday’s AFC Champions League Two clash also presents an opportunity for Adelaide United to take a significant step towards ending a 14-year wait to progress beyond the group stage of an AFC competition. And with belief in the squad firmly intact, Alagich is confident the Reds have the quality to make history. “It’s massive, and we believe that we have the squad and the players to do that. We just need to go out and get the result on Thursday, and we believe we can do that.”
