An eye for goal
It has not taken long for Papa Babacar Diawara, affectionately known as ‘Baba’, to make a considerable impact since joining Adelaide United in February.
It is no secret foreign players traditionally take some time to adjust and find their feet in a new country – and understandably so. They have to acclimatise to a different culture, cope with the language barrier and perhaps comprehend a new footballing philosophy and style of play.
Fortunately, those qualms are somewhat alleviated as most have the opportunity to make the gradual adjustment during the off-season ahead of a brand new campaign.
But for Diawara, he didn’t have the luxury of enjoying an entire pre-season to settle in, due to his arrival midway through the season.
However, he is arguably the exception to rule, as the Senegalese marksman immediately impressed and thanked his teammates for helping him acclimatise swiftly to his new surroundings.
