McGree’s meteoric rise
Riley McGree’s rapid ascension to the top has been nothing less than sensational in his short time with Adelaide United.
The 18-year-old has enjoyed a breakout campaign since being signed to the senior side from the Club’s youth set-up at the beginning of the season. Within four months the youngster has nailed down a spot in the starting XI and is naturally growing in confidence with each passing match.
The Gawler SC junior made his debut for the Club against the Western Sydney Wanderers last year in what was his solitary appearance, but it was not until this season where McGree was given a proper taste of first-team football.
After featuring five times off the bench during the early stages of the campaign, McGree would be sidelined through injury. Upon his return, he received his first start for the South Australians. He acquitted himself admirably during the entire 90 minutes in a Round 16 goalless draw with Sydney FC, garnering high praise for a mature display.
He has not looked back since, going on to make eight consecutive starts in all competitions under Head Coach, Guillermo Amor’s tutelage.
